Viggo Mortensen reprises the role of “The Man” in the film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” which hits screens across the country on Wednesday. The book was fantastic, and the release got me thinking about fine beverage (and liquids) in a post-apocalypse environment.
The Man and Robert Neville, the main character in “I Am Legend”, took different approaches to drinking. Now folks, I haven’t seen either movie (dead tree stories still hold a special place in my heart), so I’m talking about the novels. NO SPOILER ALERTS! The Man won’t touch the stuff, and Neville drinks like a fish for a good portion of the story. So how would you roll? Here’s my top ten: Continue Reading »

“Source water at four of ACR’s school installation sites prior to filtration through our systems. Water high in terribly unsafe contaminants is evident in every part of the cities in Nepal.” (Kathmandu, Nepal)
Listen up people! A Child’s Right, the incredible water relief organization covered in the June/July issue, has issued a challenge: How much would someone have to pay you to drink a glass of dirty water? We’re not talking about over-oaked and over-alcoholed Chardonnay here, were talking about water with fecal waste, dirt, and bacterial contamination 209 times the safe standard. Continue Reading »

Out for an afternoon bike ride to Point Defiance in Western Washington I felt my bodies’ reluctance to continue after a grueling uphill climb. This seemed like the perfect time to stop and grab a bottle of water from a nearby gas station. As I perused the cooler section my eyes were drawn to a shiny silver bottle of Osmosis Mint Water. Like a raccoon, once in my hand I could not put the shiny object down and proceeded to check the ingredients for my two mortal enemies sugar and high-fructose corn syrup. The label called it mint water and according to the ingredients that is exactly what it was: purified water, mint. Continue Reading »
It appears things got pretty epic at the “Twestival LA” last Thursday at Club 740 in Los Angeles. The evening’s entertainment was headlined by Joe Rogan of Fear Factor (and the UFC) doing comedy along with Ben Morrison from Punk’d hosting with a score of other performers and notables present. The event was to benefit charity: water and those who struggle without water all over the world, which is a very cool cause and another side to the world of fine beverage. Continue Reading »

Not since the days of Joseph McCarthy have we seen a witch hunt like the one being conducted on athletes regarding banned substance use. Even the great Alex Rodriguez (who is now officially “A-Roid” according to our graphics guy and embittered Seattle Mariners fan Jordan) has fallen prey to steroid allegations.

“Being close to danger is just part of the job”, says Jeff Dorenbush of Mutineer Magazine on location where water had devoured a road.
People always talk about water like it is this awesome thing, and alcohol like it’s the enemy (See Jesus + Hatchets = No More Alcohol). In some ways it is, but when was the last time tequila roared mercilessly through a populated area? This is what water has done tonight in the Pacific Northwest, and being that the Mutineers are dedicated to covering all things beverage, they jimmy-rigged a Land Cruiser snorkel kit to the Mutineer Passat and headed to ground zero for ultimate coverage. While the car snorkel was a hit, things fell apart when the Mutineers realized that no one had packed a flash light or umbrella. Furthermore, no one had any journalistic experience covering merciless floods, and with a rented copy of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and nachos waiting back at Mutineer HQ, things just began to feel not-meant-to-be.

Great wine always tastes better with great water. I’ve become a water-phile somewhere along the way, and continue to explore new waters as I come across them. Here are my top 5 favorite waters that are widely available. Continue Reading »
