If I’m honest, at times I have what could be considered a “Han Solo” mentality about social media. Like, the first time I was hanging with Gary Vaynerchuk in Jersey and talking about social media and eating lasagna, I told him flat out, “Kid, I’ve flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I’ve seen a lot of strange stuff, but I’ve never seen anything to make me believe that there’s one all-powerful Force controlling everything. Cause no mystical energy field controls my destiny. It’s all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.” But he persisted, and today I’m excited to say that social media is getting me one step closer to time travel. Continue Reading »

Okay, so Coca-Cola is sending three people on a massive world tour in search of happiness. Really? I. Don’t. Get. It.

The only thing better than integrating social media into a fine beverage company is using that social media to give awesome stuff away. Murphy-Goode has spawned a legion of Vikings with their $60,000 social media position contest, and now a small wine and cheese shop in North Carolina, Christopher’s Wine and Cheese, is following suit by giving away a vacation in Virginia’s wine country, stating that “Lately everyone’s posting contests to win this or that job – and we think that’s just crazy. Everyone we know needs a break, not more work!” There isn’t a lot to not like about this. You enter, and maybe you win. It’s great to see smaller companies stepping up to the plate and using social media to pull in new customers.
Enter contest.
Murphy Goode is making a statement by searching for the first “Murphy-Goode Wine Country Lifestyle Correspondent”. This whole thing has something to do with Vikings and a strange form of street justice called Liar’s Dice, but I’m still into it. Continue Reading »

Anything to do with “calling people out” is sure to get my attention, so when I got the Facebook group invite to join “Mom-n-Pop Restaurants Against Suze Orman”, it was game on.
I received the invite from Emily Stoller Smith of the unfathomably awesome Eyrie Vineyards, which we wrote about in Mutineer Magazine Issue 2. People often ask me what my favorite wine is, and Eyrie is definitely in the top three, if not my favorite of all time. Anyways, the invite was from a trusted source, so I felt compelled to enter the fray. Continue Reading »
