This is one of my favorite movies ever. Bill Murray plays Phil Connors, a weatherman and continual a-hole with contempt for everything and everyone. Connors is forced to relive the same day in the small town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania over and over. In an attempt to score with his producer Phil is forced to drink sweet vermouth on the rocks with a twist, her favorite drink and a cocktail he obviously detests. The classic Rob Roy is a cocktail of scotch, sweet vermouth, and a dash of bitters with a maraschino cherry as garnish. The origins of this cocktail are shrouded in mystery, mainly because no one really knows where or who invented the thing. Some say that the drink is named after the Scottish folk hero Robert Roy Macgregor, others tell that when Dewar’s Scotch Whiskey was introduced to New York an opera by the name Rob Roy had just opened and prompted the drink to be named such.
