RedBull Philadelphia
I can’t really explain what is going on in this photo, but all I can say is that I want whatever they are drinking. And as far as I can tell, they are chugging Red Bull like its going out of style.

Technically, the event is over. But I guarantee that if Mutineer Chief Energyologist, Jeff Dorenbush, got wind of Red Bull’s Flugtag, he would have been all over this action-packed, super intense, energy drink-enforced “flying” experience. If given the proper preparation time, Jeff probably would have crafted his own wings from back copies of Mutineer Magazine sprinkled with fairy dust and rubbed with Kryptonite… with one hand holding a Red Bull the entire time.

This past Labor Day, Red Bull went all out for its annual “Red Bull Flugtag” in Philadelphia. “Red Bull Flugtag, which means “flying day” in German, is a competition that dares both the brave and the brainy to design, build and pilot homemade flying machines off a 30-foot high ramp in hopes of achieving human-powered flight.” Continue Reading »

Taxes

Philadelphia, oh Philadelphia.

Instead of going after illegitimate black market companies who are stealing American tax dollars, Philly has decided to target bloggers. Yes, folks. I said bloggers.

According to the Philadelphia Department of Revenue, blogs qualify as legitimate businesses and are subject to the same licensing laws required for any business located within city limits. And no matter how great or little the profit, Philly wants its cut from the blogging community. Continue Reading »

Philly Beer Week 2011 After an extremely successful third year that included over 1,000 events and 195 participants, Philly Beer Week is already getting ready for a fourth go-around. This past week the powers that be behind Philly Beer Week announced the dates for 2011, and it looks like Beer Week is going to stay in the summer rather than move back to its old home in March. Next year’s dates are going to be June 3rd through June 12th.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with Philly Beer Week, PBW was the initial 10 day long festival celebrating beer heritage in its city that has thus sprung life into around 25 other cities throughout the country. During these 10 days, bars, breweries, restaurants, and other beer related industries team up to bring you some of the craziest, most impressive beer events they can think of. Continue Reading »

Child Drinking at Philly Game

Baseball, fun for all ages. Beer, not so much.

A viral video capturing a young child (assumed to be between the ages of 3 and 4) allegedly drinking beer in the stands of a Philadelphia Phillies game was recently released on YouTube, causing quite an uproar and outrage across the Internet. Continue Reading »

Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board Logo

As if the already existing “beer wars” within the three-tier system in the United States wasn’t bad enough, the state of Pennsylvania has decided to wage its own war with its beer industry.

Pennsylvania does not have the best reputation within the beverage industry. PA residents have been protesting against its wacky beverage laws and strict controls for some time now. Joe Roberts, the very entertaining (and knowledgeable) author of 1WineDude, sums up the the frustration of Pennsylvania residents best in his blog post entitled “I Hate The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.” Here is an excerpt: ”I hate the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.  I hate the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.  I hate the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.  I hate the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.  I hate the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.  I hate the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.Continue Reading »
