The release of Sexual Chocolate from Foothills Brewing out of Winston-Salem, NC is less than a month away and all the details surrounding the release have finally emerged. What is set to be an epic release for the 2009 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal winner in the Imperial Stout/Porter category, Sexual Chocolate will be released on February 6 beginning at 11 A.M. However, if you plan on showing up at 11 A.M. for the release, you are wrong and you WILL miss out on this dark, luscious, sexy smooth vice.
But wait, there’s more. The night before, Foothills will host PreSex, a pre-release celebration centered around a tasting that will start at 7 P.M. and last until midnight. It’s an epic adventure with tons of great beer to be shared by other generous beer lovers, so be sure to bring an awesome bottle or two to share! Continue Reading »

Yesterday’s blog was about the monstrous Firestone 13, and today’s blog is of a beer of equal proportion that still has a few months to go, but information is just starting to come out surrounding it and we now officially have a date for its release. Foothills Sexual Chocolate, a recent Bronze Medal winner in the Imperial Stout/Porter category at the Great American Beer Festival, will be released at the Winston-Salem brewpub starting at 11am on February 6, 2010.
Specifics haven’t been released as to the price, limits or how many bottles will be released, but if last years release was any indication, we can expect it to sell out quickly and cost around $15 per bottle. Last year only 600 hand signed 22oz bottles were released with a limit of 4 bottles per person… and it was gone with the quickness. Continue Reading »

The people at All About Beer Magazine know how to throw a party, a reputation well defended this last Saturday in Durham, NC at the World Beer Festival. Pints were pounded and worlds were rocked at this epic beer tasting.
According to co-owner and publisher Daniel Bradford, “As the leading beer magazine in America, we have invested three decades into building local beer communities and educating the public in beer quality and appreciation. The World Beer Festival has been an important part of our mission. Since our first Durham festival in 1996, we have seen the beer community grow in strength, diversity and passion.”
The World Beer Festival will also host events next year in Columbia, SC (January 16); Raleigh, NC (April 24); and Richmond, VA (June 12) before returning for the fifteenth Durham fest (October 2).
The only thing better than integrating social media into a fine beverage company is using that social media to give awesome stuff away. Murphy-Goode has spawned a legion of Vikings with their $60,000 social media position contest, and now a small wine and cheese shop in North Carolina, Christopher’s Wine and Cheese, is following suit by giving away a vacation in Virginia’s wine country, stating that “Lately everyone’s posting contests to win this or that job – and we think that’s just crazy. Everyone we know needs a break, not more work!” There isn’t a lot to not like about this. You enter, and maybe you win. It’s great to see smaller companies stepping up to the plate and using social media to pull in new customers.

The World Beer Festival held at Moore Square in downtown Raleigh, NC this past Saturday was designed with the beer lover in mind and not for the faint of heart. Put on each year by All About Beer Magazine, I assure you this festival is the real deal. With over 105 breweries nestled under 30,000 square feet of tents, along with food, music, and other vendors, there is something for everybody and you WILL have a good time. With two sessions, one from 12:00-4:00 and the other from 6:00-10:00, we had planned on going to the first one and then heading home. This proved to be difficult as we could only make it through one of the two tents in the first session, and ala our press passes, we conveniently stayed for the second session as well. You are given a tasting glass that is to be filled with 2-ounces of delicious beer so you are sober enough to make it through a good number of the breweries. But the breweries being as generous as they are would fill on average 3-4 ounces or maybe even more. In lieu of this, and the fact that I tried every brewery there and some more than once, it’s safe to say that I consumed over 400-ounces of beer in between noon and 10:00PM, not including the beer I had at the bar afterwards. It’s not an easy job, but someone needs to be out there getting the exciting stories. Continue Reading »
