Elysian The Mens Room Red

This amazingly well done photograph of Elysian’s Mens Room Red by Mutineer Director of Photography Ian Andreae will be the first of many photo blog entries to come here on the Mutineer blog. There won’t be much to read, just some great photos to look at. Continue Reading »

Singing Water Vineyards 2008 FREEDOM With Veterans Day right around the corner and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan still raging each night as we turn out our lights, it couldn’t come at a better time for a fine beverage company to show their support of our Armed Forces and their families. Singing Water Vineyards of Comfort, Texas has partnered up with The Fisher House Foundation to provide scholarships for military children by donating partial proceeds from the sales of their 2008 FREEDOM wine. A blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, 2008 FREEDOM has been aged in oak barrels for 24 months and is considered a premium red wine. Continue Reading »

Salute to Summer's Best 60 Second Cocktails I’m a big fan of the military and I guess that should be evident, being that in three days, I will hit my four year mark of active duty service in the Army. I’m also a big fan of alcohol and fine beverage, which should be even more evident, as I write and blog for Mutineer. Sadly, unless the former is causing one to drink the latter, the two don’t have too much of a connection.

Enter Bacardi U.S.A. and the USO and two former soldiers, one turned celebrated chef and the other a seasoned mixologist. Combined, they work to raise $100,000 for the USO and salute our military heroes by launching the “Salute to Summer’s Best 60 Second Cocktails” program, which gives consumers simple grilling and cocktail recipes created by Chef John Besh and Mixologist Bryan Stowe. Rhum Barbancourt

This should not be news to anyone, but earlier this year Haiti experienced one of the worst natural disasters in the modern Western Hemisphere — a massive earthquake that killed over 100,00 people, devastated the entire country and completely destroyed its capital, Port-Au-Prince.

The subject of Haiti hits VERY close to home at Mutineer Magazine. One of our very own editors, Brian Kropf, is currently stationed with the U.S. Army in Haiti.

The mass destruction in Haiti in combination with having a really good friend stationed there got me thinking about the beverage culture on the island. Does Haiti have a beverage culture? And if so, what does it look like? Continue Reading »

Haiti Earthquake

Beersage over at Beernews.org put together a great blog post about the efforts of craft breweries to support Haiti relief.

The post includes information about fundraising events around the country, and even mentions Mutineer Beer Editor/U.S. Army Super Soldier Brian Kropf as he and the rest of the magnificent 82nd Airborne help out in Haiti. Continue Reading »

Brian Kropf January 18 2010

Mutineer Beer Editor Brian Kropf is headed to Haiti with the Army’s 82nd Airborne to help out with relief efforts. He recorded this Ustream video today at the airfield preparing to deploy. He’ll have his iPhone, but it’s ridiculously expensive to use, so he’ll have limited contact with the outside world. Beverage will certainly be a concern with the limited water infrastructure damaged in the earthquake. Wish him well on Twitter via @odiedog52.

If you would like to get involved and donate to the relief efforts in Haiti we suggest you check out this post from Lifehacker.com, How and Where to Donate to Haiti (and Avoid Scams).

Dunkin' Donuts

A tip of the hat to one of the biggest coffee retailers in the country, Dunkin’ Donuts, and, to a greater extent, their patrons. Dunkin’ franchises in Florida and North Carolina asked their patrons to throw $4 in to buy a pound of coffee that would be shipped overseas to our service men and women. That call was answered en masse, and now three tons of coffee beans are on their way out of the country. According to a Tampa Bay Online article, one box of coffee will go to each U.S. overseas base in the world. Continue Reading »

Brian Kropf in Iraq

Mutineer Magazine supports our troops, and raises a glass to anyone out there with family serving in the military past or present. Your loved ones’ service is greatly appreciated. Here is the entire article as published in the upcoming issue of Mutineer Magazine exploring the fine beverages most missed by the 82nd Airborne out of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina while deployed overseas:

The Paratroopers of Alpha Company of the 2nd battalion 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment are no strangers to hard work or enjoying their favorite fine beverage of choice, which is the same as it has been for over 90 years. The 2-325AIR is part of the 82nd Airborne Division out of Fort Bragg, NC., which has been involved with nearly every conflict of the last century from World War I and II, to the Dominican Republic, to Grenada and Haiti, to Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and with multiple tours in Iraq, I’d say it’s a safe bet to say that there isn’t a rock in that country we haven’t looked under.
