The rumors that have been buzzing around the craft beer industry about the pending acquisition of Magic Hat Brewing Company and its parent company have officially been confirmed. Today, KPS Capital Partners, LP announced that its portfolio company North American Breweries, Inc. (NAB) has acquired Independent Brewers United, Inc. (IBU) through an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary. IBU produces, markets and sells the complete line of the Pyramid, Magic Hat and MacTarnahan’s brand families of beer.

The acquisition is the fourth by NAB since its formation in February of 2009. The first was Labatt USA, followed by High Falls Brewing Company, LLC (brewer of the Genesee, Honey Brown and Dundee family of beers), and Seagram’s Escapes and Seagram’s Smooth brands. Continue Reading »

Magic Hat Brewing Co. out of Vermont is launching its own Twitter Taste Live of sorts tomorrow called “Virtual Libations”. Sporting a very cool logo, the tasting format allows tasters all over the universe to taste along with Magic Hat head brewer Matt Cohen and share their thoughts in real time to be posted on the Magic Hat website. Trudging through the Vermont countryside in knee high snow listening intently for any noise that seems out of place you finally stumble upon your destination, Magic Hat Brewing Company. With one more glance back you make a break from the tree line and dash across the last hundred feet looking back to make sure the evil one hasn’t spotted you. The door silently swings closed and you let out a heavy sigh of relief knowing that your return journey will be that much easier with your variety pack of Magic Hat Night of the Living Dead brews.
