St. Patrick's Day - Green Alcohol

Folks get pretty geeked up about green on St. Patrick’s Day. People everywhere knock back copious amounts of green beer, and it’s even a tradition in Chicago to dye the Chicago River green. To be honest, I’d rather drink Chicago River water than most of the beer that gets turned green. If you’re going to wake up with a hangover on Thursday, why not get what you paid for? Why not get stuck into things that are green all year round. Here is a list of true green liqueurs and recipes for each. Continue Reading »

Energy Drink in Haiti

Energy drinks Brian Kropf picked up in Haiti

Despite being the poorest country in the western hemisphere, Haiti still manages to get its fine beverage on. For liquor, their most notable is Barbancourt Rhum, which unfortunately, their factory suffered some serious setbacks during the January earthquake that rocked the small Caribbean country and killed over 200,000 Haitians. They lost quite a bit of rum and the factory sustained some serious damage as well.

The most dominate seems to be energy drinks. Toro (their marketing looks pretty similar to Red Bull), Gladiator, Atomic, Ragaman, etc. The list goes on and on, but they love their energy drinks and the trash of empty bottles strewn throughout the streets makes this evident. They don’t taste nearly as good as ours and they’re pretty syrupy, with the main ingredients being water and granulated sugar. Continue Reading »

Black Eyed Peas

Guinness is hosting some pretty epic parties to celebrate it’s 250th birthday, but things have turned awkward in Malaysia, where Muslims have been barred from attending one such celebration featuring the Black Eyed Peas.

According to Reuters, No Muslims at Malaysia Black Eyed Peas concert:

The move comes after a Malaysian Islamic court sentenced a 32-year Muslim woman to be caned after she was caught drinking beer in a hotel and at a time when an opposition Islamic party has moved against beer sales. Continue Reading »

Absolut Age Verification Screen

Age verification pages on websites are insane to me. They are the equivalent to a blind, deaf, paralyzed old woman working the door of a nightclub. They baffle me. It’s the ultimate example of going through the motions…Obviously the alcohol companies don’t have much of a choice in the matter, so you can’t fault them. Here are ten age verification screens for your viewing pleasure. Continue Reading »

Virgin Galactic

The Guinness 250 year anniversary contest is awesome. Three prizes: a trip to space with Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic (remember the cola wars?), a ride in a deep sea submarine with a luxury bar, and an exclusive concert/meet and greet with Black Eyed Peas. I don’t know if the Black Eyed Peas can compete with a trip to space, that seems a little off. They should have the Black Eyed Peas perform in space…You can enter the contest on the Guinness website Did you know that the first case of Guinness didn’t arrive in New York until 1840? History is great.

Via Telegraph – Guinness offers drinkers chance to win space flight

AdAge.com reported that P. Diddy is in talks with Diageo to promote its Guinness and Red Stripe brands. The announcement drew 3 comments by readers, all sharing the same perspective:

1) Oh boy! I can’t wait! Psych.
2) I am speechless. Just a terrible idea.
3) Why does anyone pay attention to this self-absorbed phony? Continue Reading »

The only thing wrong with the Guinness “body parts” ad campaign is that it isn’t featured in Mutineer Magazine, but last night a leprechaun told me in a dream that this would soon change, so now I’m just waiting for the phone to ring… Continue Reading »
