I went to my friends’ wedding a few short weeks ago. Something that I have always loved about weddings, picnics, business retreats, and other like events isn’t just the community, but the community filled with far more alcohol than we could shake a stick at.
In the course of time we have all had means and methods for transporting our various beverages to the site of choice. Flasks, jockey boxes, wine gourds, coolers being amongst some of my favorites. Duane Woytonik of Brewpub4u seems to have delivered to us the mastery beer transport machine. Continue Reading »
As craft beer continues to develop the reputation of being a sophisticated beverage worthy of pairing with the finest cuisines, more and more restaurants are modifying their beverage menus to accommodate the trend.
True story: when one puts Mentos candies in Diet Coke, an eruption occurs.
In 2006, this modern day marvel (and awesome party trick) reached the level of Internet stardom when Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz posted the “Extreme Diet Coke & Mentos Experiments” video on EepyBird.com. The original video, in what became a series, re-created the famous fountain display outside the Bellagio Hotel in Vegas, using a timed series of eruptions. Continue Reading »
Vodka perplexes me. It is one of the only liquors, that I know of, that can be distilled with a variety of ingredients. I have tried pure grain vodka, potato vodka, pure apple vodka and many other not-so-pure forms of vodka (oh hello, college parties).
Purists prefer their vodka to be made from rye. Wheat is another common ingredient used to produce vodka. And some even use corn or molasses. For the gluten intolerant, potato versions are available. But when other ingredients get involved, things get epic. Continue Reading »
Those cheeky punks at BrewDog are up to it again. This time, they’ve picked up the gauntlet thrown down by Schorschbrau who bumped BrewDog’s Tactical Nuclear Penguin off of the “world’s strongest beer” throne earlier this month with their Schorschbock. The only way they could have made this promo video funnier is if they had put Biz Markee in a penguin costume. Oh BrewDog youuu; you got what I neeeeed. Unfortunately, I’ll never get to taste it because the West Coast Mutineer Armory intercepts these kind of packages. The Villains! Continue Reading »
Ever since I added stock car racing to my bucket list after noticing that I only need 50,000 Amtrak points for a “Race Your Own Stock Car” experience, I’ve been on the lookout for some more epic stuff to add to my list, which also includes buying Pabst and organizing a library tasting of Crystal Pepsi.
So you can imagine my reaction when I heard that Red Bull is offering people a chance to free fall from earth’s stratosphere… Continue Reading »
The #3 most viewed Mutineer blog post of 2009 tells the story of the most expensive bottle of Champagne ever, which hails all the way from 1928. I’m sure it makes for a hell of a Bellini.Continue Reading »

It’s been a very good week for crazy-expensive liquors at auctions. A bottle of Glenfiddich 50 Year Old Single Malt Scotch sold for $38,000 on Monday at a Christie’s auction to raise money for “Friends of Scotland”. This was the only bottle available for private purchase, with there only being three other bottles on the market at the Mardarin Oriental in New York, the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami, and the Peninsula hotel in Beverly Hills.
Coincidentally, a bottle of 1788 Vieux Cognac was sold this week at auction in Paris for $36,935.
