Pabst Blue Ribbon Retro It was announced last week that Pabst Brewing Company, makers of Pabst Blue Ribbon aka PBR, had been acquired by the Wall Street investment firm, Metropoulos & Co.

“My sons, Evan and Daren, and I are proud to be part of this 165 year-old historic American icon. Pabst Brewing Company is one of America’s most traditional and well-recognized beer companies and the producer of brands with great heritage and attractive growth trends. Our flagship Pabst Blue Ribbon is America’s fastest-growing beer brand and the growth of several of our other brands currently outpaces the market.” – Dean Metropoulos Continue Reading »

Things are CRAZY in the world of fine beverage, because the mighty Pabst Blue Ribbon and its myriad of associated brands are available to buy for a mere $300 million.

According to the New York Post:

The company’s brands represent a virtual who’s who of beers, including Ballantine, Colt 45, Lone Star, Olympia Genuine Draft, Piels, Schaefer, Schmidt, and Stroh’s. It is also one of the few private independent brewers left in the nation. Continue Reading »

Sea World

The Associated Press is reporting that AB-Inbev has sold five theme parks to the Blackstone Group for $2.7 billion. That is a lot of money…enough to buy you approximately 5.4 billion cans of Bud Light at the right bar at the right time in Las Vegas. SABMiller SABMiller, the international beer company who owns Miller Genuine Draft, Grolsch and other beer brands, got their very own Namibian brewing license and plans to open up shop in the area. While the company has already been importing beer into Namibia, the license will allow them to finally build a plant in the area.

The brewer also acquired a non-alcoholic maize drink called Maheu from Zambia, where they already own Zambian Breweries Group. Both moves seem to be strategic steps in the company’s desire to internationalize beer — and make it taste exactly the same across the globe. Boring! Continue Reading »
