A couple weeks ago you may remember seeing a mention on the Mutineer blog for the Mutineer sponsored Russian River Valley Wingrowers “Single Night” event happening in Sonoma County on June 5. Well, now there is an opportunity for San Francisco Bay Area folks to attend the event via a luxury bus road trip aptly titled: TAKE IT TO THE RIVER – A Russian River Valley Wine Country VIP Road Trip.
This VIP package is $260 per person. $260 might sound like a lot of money right now. BUT, as a sponsor of the event, Mutineer Magazine is offering tickets to our subscribers and blog readers at 50% discount until 9:00PM on Thursday, May 27th – or until tickets sell-out. Continue Reading »

Mutineer Magazine’s 2nd Annual Red Carpet Tasting Presented by Amarula Cream brings together people, culture, and fine beverage at the renowned Falcon Hollywood for a memorable night of beverage tasting. The event follows up on the success of Mutineer’s first major affair celebrating its national launch last May 2009. A selective sampling of 40+ fine beverage companies from around the world will be sharing the fruits of their labor for attendees to explore. While watching the LA Lakers shellack the plucky Phoenix Suns in the NBA Western Conference finals the other night, I heard an interesting tidbit escape the lips of Marv Albert, one of America’s greatest commentators.
Albert said that Lakers coach Phil Jackson had recently barred his star forward Lamar Odom from drinking coffee before the game. This is madness! This is JACKSOOOOON! The monotone commander in chief thought Odom was expending all his energy before the game and that he came out flat at tip off as a result of his java jolt. Continue Reading »

Ah yes! Another random appearance by yours truly on the Mutineer Blog. After 2 months of spotty blog posts from the road in the war-torn Mutineer Passat, I am writing this blog under duress at an undisclosed hotel somewhere between Chico and Sacramento as the once-friendly hotel management has made it clear they are not “game” to negotiate a special “Mutineer Check-out Time” of 3:00 PM today. I’m seeking the extra time to wrap up some final details on Mutineer Magazine’s 2nd Annual Red Carpet Tasting sponsored by Amarula Cream.
In the meantime, I must tell you about the Russian River Valley Winegrowers “Single Night”, happening June 5, 2010 at C. Donatiello Winery in Healdsburg, California. “Single” is the name of the game here, with single-vineyard wines being poured for nubile single wine drinkers coming together to rub shoulders and whatever the hell else kids do these days. Recently, there has been much concern in the California craft beer industry that a new state Assembly Bill will prohibit brewers from using coffee in the brewing process.
The bill would prohibit the import, production, manufacture, distribution, or sale of caffeinated malt beverages, as defined, at retail locations within the state. This means that beverage institutions would not only be prohibited from making caffeinated malt beverages, they would be completely banned from even entering the state. Continue Reading »

California mixologists and bar owners take heed, the Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) is actively cracking down on bars and restaurants currently practicing the art of distilled spirits infusion. This recent crack down comes as a result of an industry advisory report the ABC released on the Rectification of Distilled Spirits in On-Sale Premises. The report states:
It has come to the attention of the Department that some on-sale licensees are exceeding their license privileges by engaging in rectification of distilled spirits in violation of Section 23355 of the Business and Professions Code. Continue Reading »

On December 7, Wine Mutineer Alan Kropf stopped by the Hahn Estates sales office in Napa, CA to participate in a session about wineries and bloggers collaborating. Cheers to the fine people at Hahn Estates for putting this on. In addition to Hahn’s new media guru Lisa de Bruin attending this session, Hahn President William Leigon, Winemaker Adam LaZarre, Director of Vineyard Operations Andy Mitchell, VP of Sales Evelyn Pool, and Lisa Adams-Walter from Public Relations also attended.
