Stocking the Bar for the End of the World Party

The Road

The Man and Robert Neville, the main character in “I Am Legend”, took different approaches to drinking. Now folks, I haven’t seen either movie (dead tree stories still hold a special place in my heart), so I’m talking about the novels. NO SPOILER ALERTS! The Man won’t touch the stuff, and Neville drinks like a fish for a good portion of the story. So how would you roll? Here’s my top ten: Continue Reading »

The Great Knob Creek Bourbon Shortage of 2009

Wed, Jul 8 |

The Courier-Journal out of the Louisville, Kentucky is reporting that Knob Creek has run out of bourbon! Ye gods!

Fans of Knob Creek bourbon may find their favorite whiskey in short supply this summer as the brand’s bottle warehouses near Clermont, Ky., are empty and the next batch of aged whiskey won’t be ready until November.

Bourbon experts say the looming shortage is somewhat unusual, although brands such as Knob Creek, which is aged for nine years, are more susceptible because their distillers must predict demand far in advance.Continue Reading »

Vodka Is The Easy Way Out…

Sun, May 25 |

Drink on FireI drink a lot of vodka, so don’t get me wrong.   It has its place.   Lately though, I’ve been exploring cocktails that don’t use vodka.  My  thought behind this is that vodka is really good at one thing: getting  people very drunk, very quickly.  Vodka is defined as a tasteless,  odorless spirit.  So, with exception to the alcohol, it really isn’t adding much to your cocktail.  It’s like alcoholic water, which again,  has its place.  Why not use a spirit that will add complexity and  flavors to your cocktail?  Continue Reading »
