Source water at four of A Child's Right's school installation sites prior to filtration through A Child's Right systems
Source water at four of ACR’s school installation sites prior to filtration through our systems. Water high in terribly unsafe contaminants is evident in every part of the cities in Nepal.” (Kathmandu, Nepal)

Not sure what to get that special someone for Christmas this year? Since they’re already likely subscribed to Mutineer Magazine, why not make a donation to A Child’s Right on their behalf and give the gift of water to a poor child in a developing country? Here are just a few reasons why you should help:

  • 80% of diseases in the developing world are caused by contaminated water.
  • Waterborne diseases are the single biggest threat to children around the world.
  • Of the 3 million people who die every year due to waterborne diseases caused by unclean water, 90% are children under the age of 5.
  • Right now, one billion people on the planet don’t have access to safe, clean drinking water.
  • Every 20 seconds, a child dies from a water-related disease.
  • In Africa alone, people spend 40 billion hours every year just walking to their source contaminated water, equivalent to the entire yearly workforce of France.
  • Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.
  • One in eight people on the planet drinks water that’s likely to make them sick.

These are just a few of many scary statistics about the global water crisis and children are especially vulnerable to waterborne diseases, as their bodies aren’t strong enough to fight diarrhea, dysentery and other illnesses.

Donating is easy. Visit the donation page at A Child’s Right and using your credit card you can make a donation on behalf of yourself or dedicate it on behalf of, in honor of, or in memory of someone else. You can even choose which country your donation goes to or you can opt for it to be used for water projects where it’s needed most.

Water is the fundamental building block of life. Without water, we wouldn’t just be without wine, whiskey or beer, we couldn’t even survive.

To donate, visit AChildsRight.org.

Want to see how bad the global water crisis is? Check out Mutineer Alan Kropf’s documentary Thirsty Children, which documents his trip to Nepal to install five Mutineer purchased water filtration systems.

Looking to purchase wine? Why not purchase it through Cellar Angels and opt to have a portion of the proceeds donated to A Child’s Right.

About A Child’s Right

Their mission is simple: to change the lives of vulnerable children in impoverished urban areas by providing clean, safe drinking water to orphanages, schools, children’s hospitals, street shelters and rescue homes. They envision a world with clean water for all children — and a museum telling of when it was not so.

Cellar Angels

Two industry leaders are uniting for a single cause — to help A Child’s Right assure safe drinking water for children in Asia and Africa. Members of Cellar Angels will now be able to select A Child’s Right as a funds recipient whenever they purchase wine via the Cellar Angels website. Mutineer Magazine will assist in the program’s promotion and oversee marketing of the opportunity.

Cellar Angels is a unique wine philanthropy company specializing in providing artisanal wines to their members at a discount in the name of their partnering charities. The Cellar Angels member selects which charity the company donates proceeds towards and A Child’s Right is now an option. The two companies were brought together by Alan Kropf, Editor in Chief of Mutineer Magazine

“Water relief is fundamentally a beverage issue, and I’m repeatedly amazed at A Child’s Right’s effectiveness in bringing clean water to children in urban areas around the world. With Cellar Angels joining Mutineer Magazine to support the efforts of A Child’s Right, we are setting up a sustainable way to raise funds and awareness with long-term potential,” Kropf said.

Mutineer Magazine has been working with A Child’s Right since 2009, producing a list of awareness-building and fundraising projects including the 2nd Annual Mutineer Red Carpet Party in partnership with Amarula Cream, Mutineer Blue Carpet Dinner in partnership with Jordan Vineyard and Winery, Mutineer Holiday Comedy Festival in partnership with Don Roberto Tequila, Mutinous Battle Chai Ale in partnership with New Holland Brewing Co. and the upcoming 3rd Annual Mutineer Red Carpet Party in partnership with Luxardo and Chinaco Tequila. Mutineer’s recent water relief work with A Child’s Right culminated with Kropf’s visit to Kathmandu, Nepal to observe the installation of five water filtration systems funded through Mutineer projects and a special November water-themed issue of Mutineer Magazine which recaps the project.

Cellar Angels works exclusively with acclaimed Napa and Sonoma County artisan wineries to provide its members access to highly sought-after wines at discounts well below retail and then donates portions of proceeds to charity. Once a week, Cellar Angels members receive a private email indicating that week’s offer and exclusive member price, a custom video of the wine and winemaker, tasting notes and food-pairing recipe. The member has just five days to purchase before the opportunity ends.

“There is nothing more important in the production of exceptional wine than water. In fact, there’s nothing more important in life,” indicated Martin Cody, President of Cellar Angels. “Partnering with both Mutineer and A Child’s Right allows us the privilege to help make sure children have access to clean water.”

Eric Stowe, Executive Director of A Child’s Right, states, “Cellar Angels gives ‘wine pairing’ a whole new meaning. Pairing fine wine with charitable giving means that children who formerly drank contaminated water will now drink water that is clean and safe.” He goes on to say, “There’s a very old story about turning water into wine, but turning wine into water is something entirely new!”

Clean Water Crusaders

Mutineer Magazine’s Mutinous Water Relief Expedition to Kathmandu, Nepal in support of A Child’s Right and global water relief is approaching fast and Mutineer couldn’t be any more excited. What will Mutineer Magazine be doing? Mutineer will be leading a fine beverage expedition and purchasing and installing 5 water filtration systems, enough to provide clean water to 25,000 at-risk children for 10 years. Pretty epic.

The first two stages of our plan have been implemented by way of the Mutineer Magazine Blue Carpet Fundraiser Dinner for Water Relief held at Jordan Winery in Healdsburg, CA and with the Mutineer Magazine Holiday Comedy Festival held at Jacuzzi Family Vineyards in Sonoma, CA this last December. This brings us to something we’re super excited about, Clean Water Crusaders.

Are you a beverage producer looking for some exposure? Are you looking to further your philanthropic efforts? What if you could get your product featured in Mutineer Magazine and all while making a tax deductible charitable contribution directly to 501(c)(3) A Child’s Right? This is your chance. Beverage producers who raise or donate $500 will have their product professionally photographed and featured in Mutineer Magazine as seen in the image above. For the three producers who raise or donate the most, their product will be featured on the cover of the nationally distributed Mutineer Magazine for the entire nation to see.

Here’s how it works:

  • Your company raises at least $500 by August 27, 2011 to benefit water relief in Nepal, with all funds paid directly to 501(c)(3) non-profit organization A Child’s Right.
  • Your fine beverage company sends Mutineer Magazine your logo or a bottle of your beverage to be photographed.
  • A photograph of your company’s product or logo will be featured in the November/December water relief-themed issue of Mutineer Magazine with an interesting water-themed fact that will also be tweeted by @MutineerMag on behalf of your company.

And again, the top three fundraisers will be featured on the cover of the September/October issue of Mutineer Magazine.

For more information, visit our Clean Water Crusaders page or email Jeff Dorenbush.

Kara's Cupcakes

I know you must be sitting there wondering how we could possibly make an evening of fine beverage, amazing comedians and helping children even better, but we’ve done it. The wonderful people of Kara’s Cupcakes have just agreed to set up shop at the Mutineer Magazine Holiday Comedy Festival and we are so pleased to have them join us.

We Mutineers are all pretty excited about this turn of events so don’t be surprised to see us lining up to buy one of Kara’s adorable little treats. I am personally looking forward to their vanilla cupcake with sweet Madagascar bourbon vanilla frosting. And, I have it on good authority that our fearless Editor in Chief is excited to have a coconut cupcake, having seen him thoroughly devour enjoying one at the Oxbow Market in Napa recently.

Cochon Volant Flying Pig BBQ

This weekend the food trucks (and trailers and vans) are pulling out all the stops at the Mutineer Magazine Holiday Comedy Festival. We are happy to announce that Cochon Volant (Flying Pig!) Barbecue will be joining us. Owner and chef Rob Larman will be serving up barbecued pork and brisket sliders from his flying pig smoker for your dining pleasure.

The trucks will open for business at 7:00pm Saturday, so be sure to get there in time to grab an amazing (and cheap) dinner at the trucks before the show starts. I know I will!
