Welcome to BottleRock

In the 1960s, Napa Valley was an underdog recovering from the catastrophic damage caused by prohibition. The region also struggled to earn the respect of being a world class wine region, which at the time was not a foregone conclusion. By the 1990s, that respect had been earned and then some, with Napa Valley quickly becoming a symbol of financial wealth and indulgent excess, a playground for the prosperous to celebrate their success. James Conaway summed it up in his book, “the far side of eden,” saying:

…something was wrong. People disagreed over when “it” had happened, and why, but not about the effect: a real, and growing, sense of loss. They felt it while sitting in a long line of cars on Highway 29, looking up at once pristine slopes dense with conifer and chaparral, studded now with “steroid houses,” “muscle houses,” “McMansions,” all contemptuous names for places built not to live in but as monuments to finance, visited by absentee owners. Gloria Ferrer’s 2004 Royal Cuvée Mother’s Day

2004 Royal Cuvee

On Sunday all across the country, Americans will be preparing breakfast in bed for mom. This often means, aside from a great mess in the kitchen, champagne, mimosas, and strawberries. Thankfully Gloria Ferrer has released their 2004 Gloria Ferrer Royal Cuvée in time for mom. The 2004 Gloria Ferrer Royal Cuvée is described as having “generous fruit aromas and flavors, a fine mousse and a persistent, crisp finish.” Sounds like a pretty tasty way to start the day.

A tasty sparkling wine deserves a tasty breakfast too accompany it. Here are a few tasty recipes from a few food bloggers I love, to pair with your bubbly Mother’s Day libations.

Blueberry Pancakes from Smitten Kitchen.
Eggs on Toast from 101 Cookbooks
Eggs Benedict from Simply Recipes.

For those of you who are cooking for a gluten-free mother here are some great recipes from Food Republic.

Spirits Spotlight: Herradura Colección de la Casa Port Cask Finish

Herradura Coleccion de la Casa Bottle and Packaging

As we get closer to Cindo de Mayo … more tequila!

Casa Herradura’s Colección de la Casa is a limited edition line of tequila that deviates from what is considered normal and offers tequila connoisseurs something unique. Each year, the recipe is modified by changing one key element to what is their normal tequila. By altering just one of the five sources of tequila flavor – agave, water, fermentation, distillation, and maturation – the end result is entirely different.

For 2012, Casa Herradura has offered Colección de la Casa Port Cask. Just 2,000 cases of the Port cask finished reposado tequila will be offered, available nationally for $89.99. The tequila is first rested in medium-char American oak casks for eleven months, and prior to bottling it is finished in hand-selected vintage Port casks from the Douro Valley in Portugal for two additional months of aging. The Port cask contributes hints of port, plum and pepper, with undertones of dark chocolate.

He felt the need to try and help people and The Ward 8 Gesture was born. The below text is by Matty Durgin on behalf of The Ward 8 Gesture. See the full post »
