Deschutes Brewery Offers New “Fresh Squeezed IPA”

Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA

Bend, Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery will offer a new IPA this summer in bottles and kegs. Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA, named for its “citrus bomb” characteristics courtesy of a heavy dose of Citra, Nugget and Mosaic hops, was a brewpub favorite, originally starting in their Bond Street Series. The Bond Street Series are beers created and served in Deschutes’ Bend and Portland brewpubs. Some of these beers, like Hop Henge Experimental IPA and Hop Trip, are called up to the big leagues to see bottling and distribution.

“We’re constantly tinkering and experimenting with beers and styles in our pubs,” said Veronica Vega, Assistant Brewmaster, responsible for brewing operations at the company’s Bend, Oregon brewpub. “Some are so consistently popular with our visitors and fans that we decide to share the wealth through our Bond Street series. Based on its enthusiastic reception in our pubs, we’re sure this new beer will be welcomed by the masses!”

Fresh Squeezed IPA will be introduced in 22-ounce bottles and on draft to the 20 states where Deschutes Brewery beers are sold over the next few weeks, in limited quantities.

Malts: Pale, Crystal, and Munich
Hop: Citra, Nugget, and Mosaic
ABV: 6.0%
IBUs: 60

Beverage Kickstarter Spotlight: Pecaño – A Texas Pecan Liqueur

Here at Mutineer HQ, we are all about cheering on beverage entrepreneurs and their efforts to bring something new to your glass. Kickstarter is a great resource for people to bring their ideas to life. One project we dig right now is from Pecaño out of Austin, TX.

During his time in Italy, Jeff Schmulen was inspired by the bittersweet liqueurs served, such as the black walnut liqueur. Upon his return, he decided to create his own, but with a decidedly Texan flare. He created Pecaño using all natural ingredients to make what he describes as a “profoundly textured, aromatic and flavorful spirit.” At Mutineer, we are intrigued by the possibilities for this liqueur and would love to see it brought to life.

Watch the video above, and check out Jeff’s project on Kickstarter. If the video doesn’t convince you, perhaps the recipes below will. There are only a couple of days left to back this project, so hurry!

Something to Check Out: Cocktail Challenge App

Cocktail Challenge App

Looking to kill some time during class? Increase your cocktail knowledge? Challenge yourself or friends? Then you should look into the Cocktail Challenge app. Currently only available for iPhone, the app is free and it challenges you with trivia questions in multiple categories from cocktails to gin to rum to cocktails in TV & film and more. The app is free for several levels, but you have to pay to unlock all of the levels and while some may be easy (or easier), some are definitely very difficult.

As the creators are from the UK, measurements are in milliliters but can be toggled to ounces. If the game wasn’t enough, the app also includes recipes for all of our favorite cocktails.

Definitely an app worth checking out.

For more information on the app, visit the Gin Monkey website or the iTunes website.

To download, search for Cocktail Challenge in the App Store on your iPhone.
