Rare, One-of-a-Kind 64 Year Old Macallan Raises $460,000 for Water Relief

The Macallan 64 Year Old in Lalique: Cire Perdue

Mutineer turned beer into water with New Holland Brewing with our collaboration beer Mutinous Battle Chai to help fund A Child’s Right’s water projects in developing countries. Now The Macallan and Lalique have turned whisky into water by way of The Macallan 64 Years Old in Lalique: Cire Perdue. The 64 year old single malt Scotch is the oldest and rarest single malt whisky ever released by the distillery and is housed in a decanter expertly crafted using the ancient “cire perdue,” or lost wax, process that Lalique has not implemented since 1930. How much did it go for you ask? It was expected to bring in $100,000 and it went at auction for an earth shattering $460,000, all of which will help fund charity:water and their water relief projects in developing countries. Jose Cuervo to MLB Commissioner: Reschedule Game 3

As everyone knows, a sporting season is coming to an end with one culminating battle left to crown a champion once and for all. That sport is the CuervoGames National Finals in Las Vegas held this Saturday. In its inaugural season, the CuervoGames is a seven-month long nationwide tour that has been described as a cross between Wipeout and American Gladiators as it pits teams of four against each other as they battle in four different challenges that are all tied to the tequila making process. Absinthe in Spain

    Palacio Absinthe

Last week, yours truly travelled back to Spain for a few days of R&R, so I thought I’d do some digging to see how the absinthe scene has progressed over the past several years. The fact that absinthe was never banned in Spain made me wonder if absinthe’s proliferation will be any different than in the U.S. Has it become much more popular? Has it had a ‘novelty purchase’ boom, like we did in 2007 and early 2008? See the full post »

    Absolut Launches “Glimmer”

    Absolut Glimmer

The savvy people in the marketing department at Absolut are at it again, this time with the release of Absolut Glimmer. This limited edition packaging follows in the footsteps of Absolut Bling Bling, Absolut Disco, Absolut Rock Edition, and In An Absolut World Every Night is a Masquerade, but Absolut Glimmer is a breed of its own. For the first time, the bottle itself was altered rather than just the design on the bottle or how it was packaged. The concept was to make the bottle mimic the look of classically cut crystal and when placed in various light conditions, the bottle will appear differently as it reacts to the light. Is The Absinthe That Is Now Legal In The U.S. ‘real’ Absinthe?

Time to drop a little nerdy absinthe knowledge on you today.

Since 2007, one of the most popular arguments I’ve seen from disreputable producers and their followers is that the absinthe currently being sold in the U.S. isn’t ‘real’ absinthe. So, I thought I’d give you all the truth behind the marketing-speak. See the full post »

    Johnnie Walker Double Black Returns

    Johnnie Walker Double Black

The much talked about but ever so elusive Johnnie Walker Double Black is back. Well, in March 2011 anyways. Originally launched and tested at six leading international airport locations in January 2010, Double Black was received so well that it will be distributed globally early next year. Taking the already smoky Johnnie Walker Black Label, Master Blender Jim Beveridge would take the characteristics found in that and amplify them, creating a new intensity to the spirit.
