Deschutes Brewery Offers New “Fresh Squeezed IPA”

Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA

Bend, Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery will offer a new IPA this summer in bottles and kegs. Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA, named for its “citrus bomb” characteristics courtesy of a heavy dose of Citra, Nugget and Mosaic hops, was a brewpub favorite, originally starting in their Bond Street Series. The Bond Street Series are beers created and served in Deschutes’ Bend and Portland brewpubs. Some of these beers, like Hop Henge Experimental IPA and Hop Trip, are called up to the big leagues to see bottling and distribution.

“We’re constantly tinkering and experimenting with beers and styles in our pubs,” said Veronica Vega, Assistant Brewmaster, responsible for brewing operations at the company’s Bend, Oregon brewpub. “Some are so consistently popular with our visitors and fans that we decide to share the wealth through our Bond Street series. Based on its enthusiastic reception in our pubs, we’re sure this new beer will be welcomed by the masses!”

Fresh Squeezed IPA will be introduced in 22-ounce bottles and on draft to the 20 states where Deschutes Brewery beers are sold over the next few weeks, in limited quantities.

Malts: Pale, Crystal, and Munich
Hop: Citra, Nugget, and Mosaic
ABV: 6.0%
IBUs: 60

Beverage Kickstarter Spotlight: Osborn Brewing- Sustainable Hops for Local Brewers in Ohio

Here at Mutineer HQ, we like to encourage beverage entrepreneurs and their efforts to bring something new to the beverage industry. Kickstarter is a great resource for these people to bring their ideas to life. One project we are particularly stoked about is the Osborn Brewing: Sustainable Hops For Local Brewers project.

Osborn Brewing is a home brew shop located in Monroe, Ohio run by Brent Osborn, a man on a mission to bring his customers fresh local hops via 86 acres of land in the Ohio Valley. We are pretty excited about this project, because sourcing better ingredients means only one thing; fine beverage. Check out the project and see if you can help them bring it to life. Be sure to watch the video, because if the dancing horsey doesn’t persuade you to fork over a few bucks, I don’t know what will.

New Belgium & The Home Brew Chef

Chef Sean Z. Paxton

Last week New Belgium invaded Northern California and the Sonoma International Film Festival. The third largest craft brewery in America began the celebration with a night of short films and beer cuisine cooked by none other than Sonoma’s own Sean Z. Paxton, The Home Brew Chef. The evening started with bacon fat popped popcorn with tomato and porcini powder, and brews on the patio at Ramekins Culinary School, Events and Inn in Sonoma. Throughout the meal, Chef Sean thrilled guests with his skilled and imaginative menu highlighting brews such as La Folie, Ranger IPA and Sunshine Wheat, showing their versatility in the kitchen.

The resulting meal was a feast for the senses as well as the eyes. During dinner New Belgium featured 3 of the 20 short films they presented at the film festival. I have attached one below, “The Man Who Lived On His Bike” for you to check out.

New Belgium is also hosting a traveling film festival of sorts, for those of you who couldn’t make it to Sonoma. Click here for more information.

Beers For Boston

The One Fund

The brewing community is rallying together to help victims in the wake of Monday’s tragedy. Today from 3:00pm to midnight Jack’s Abbey Brewing is hosting a fundraiser at The Tavern Framingham in Boston with 100% of the proceeds going to help victims. I spoke to Jack of Jack’s Abbey this morning and he told me that it all began with Three Tides & Marshall Warf Brewing Company of Belfast, ME wanting to find a way to donate beer to the cause. From there things snowballed with many generous members of the brewing community donating their libations to raise money for The One Fund, a fund set up by the State of Massachusetts to help those effected by the blast.

The breweries involved are:

Allagash Brewing Co
Atlantic Brewing Co
Battle Road Brewing Co
Brash Brewing Co
Cape Ann Brewing
Clown Shoes
Jack’s Abby Brewing
John Harvard’s Brew House
Left Hand Brewing
Maine Beer Co
Marshall Wharf
Night Shift Brewing
Oxbow Brewing Co
Samuel Adams
Six Point
Stone Brewing Co
Tree House Brewing Co
Tuckerman Brewing Co

If you are in or around Boston and would like to attend click here for more information.

If you can’t attend, but would like to donate to The One Fund click here.

For Boston

Yesterday was a terrible day. Triumph became chaos and the world turned bleak because of hate. We saw the worst of humanity, but in the same breath, the world saw what Boston was made of and it is stronger stuff than the madman who tried to crush it. The innate kindness of people trumped fear, and the compassionate actions of many were a shield against malice. See the full post »
