You may have heard about the recent vodka heist in Miami, where 1 million dollars in vodka was taken by some well informed thieve. Here at Mutineer HQ, we got to chatting about what fine beverage we’d risk a trip to the big house for. Here is what we came up with.
Editor in Chief Brian Kropf chose, “Old Rip Van Winkle 23 Year Old Family Reserve, because it was put into barrels within two weeks of when I was born, and that is rad.” I would imagine that a symbol of mortality as delicious as this would be a strong motivator.
Creative Director Julie Hadjinian heads to “The Big Easy” to lift Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye. She’d simply don a Mardi Gras mask and would make her move while the city is distracted with bead flinging, daiquiris and brass bands.
CEO Jeff Dorenbush may seem like a straight laced businessman, but underneath is a soda anarchist waiting to break out. When faced with the vault holding the secrets to Coca-Cola, Mr. Dorenbush said he would break in and swap out the recipe with Pepsi’s to see if people could end the decades long debate. I imagine he’d have to go on the run with Edward Snowden if he’s going to get out of that one.
I went with Barolo. Ever since my trip to the Piemonte region last year, I have been stock piling Barolo like it is going out of style. You can be sure that if I saw a cellar full of great Barolo, I’d quickly go from Erin Jimcosky mild-mannered publisher, to Barolo thief. I’d be like a jewel thief, only much more tannic.
What beverage would you risk a caper for?
