Goose Island Beer Co.’s En Passant a Play on the Old Fashioned

It’s no secret we love cocktails (we are sponsoring the 2012 Tales of the Cocktail Official Cocktail Contest, after all!), and it should be no surprise that we love craft beer. What if you can have the best of both world? And I’m not talking about cocktails using craft beer as an ingredient.

Chicago’s Goose Island Beer Co. has done this with their En Passant. Brewers Joel Becker, Keith Gabbett, and Claudia Jendron all had a love of cocktails, particularly the classic Old Fashioned. Their En Passant, a mild rye ale, was created to be similar in style with a rounded malt backbone and spice from the rye, combined with the sweetness blood orange.

En Passant clocks in at a low 4% abv and is also meant to pair with a shot of whiskey.

Will we see more cocktail themed beers from Goose Island? I hope so. Not your thing? The Small Screen Network’s Robert Hess can show you how to mix up a great Old Fashioned instead.

Wow, that is a really cool idea. I’d love to see what they would do with the profiles of more bitter cocktails.
