Rare, One-of-a-Kind 64 Year Old Macallan Raises $460,000 for Water Relief

The Macallan 64 Year Old in Lalique: Cire Perdue

Mutineer turned beer into water with New Holland Brewing with our collaboration beer Mutinous Battle Chai to help fund A Child’s Right’s water projects in developing countries. Now The Macallan and Lalique have turned whisky into water by way of The Macallan 64 Years Old in Lalique: Cire Perdue. The 64 year old single malt Scotch is the oldest and rarest single malt whisky ever released by the distillery and is housed in a decanter expertly crafted using the ancient “cire perdue,” or lost wax, process that Lalique has not implemented since 1930. How much did it go for you ask? It was expected to bring in $100,000 and it went at auction for an earth shattering $460,000, all of which will help fund charity:water and their water relief projects in developing countries.

The auction of the Lalique decanter was the culmination of a worldwide tour throughout the year where 10cl bottles of the rare spirit were auctioned, along with two special tumblers, to help raise interest in the 64 year old Macallan filled Lalique decanter. In Taipei alone, a 10cl of the Scotch went for $41,000. Total, the partnership has raised $604,902, of which 100% of that will go to charity:water.

Water relief is very important to us here at Mutineer, which should be very evident with our steadfast support of our charity partner A Child’s Right, whose mission is to provide clean drinking water to at-risk children in developing countries. With that, we are very pleased to be seeing another fine beverage company such as The Macallan strive to help raise awareness for that very issue. We take our beverages very seriously, whether that be beer, spirits, wine, or even tea and coffee and to have those be made, we need clean water. But to the people being helped by charity:water and A Child’s Right, the finest beverage they could ever ask for is clean drinking water that won’t make them sick, or worse. With that, The Macallan and Lalique, we thank you. To charity:water, keep up the great work.

Mutineer will be hosting two events of our own in December, both of which the proceeds will go to A Child’s Right to provide clean drinking water to at-risk children in Nepal. A dinner at Jordan Winery in Healdsburg, CA December 10th where we will also be auctioning off rare spirits of our own (40 year old Scotch anyone?) and a fine beverage-fueled comedy festival December 11th at Jacuzzi Family Vineyards in Sonoma, CA. If you can, please come and let’s continue to make a difference. Let us celebrate the wondrous beverages we consume on a daily basis by providing those who drink dirty and contaminated water, daily, with clean and safe water.
