Start of the Future

Just when you thought the war over the highest alcohol beer had ended after Scottish brewery BrewDog claimed the title with its 55% abv ‘The End of History’, reports of a new victor are buzzing all over the Internet. Within just a week of the release of ‘The End of History’, Netherlands-based brewery ‘t Koelschip, who held the title before BrewDog with its 45% abv ‘Oblix’, is rumored to have released a 60% abv beer, aptly named ‘Start of the Future’. Rothschild's inside

“In the heart of Brooklyn’s Boerum Hill, a restaurant brings classic New Orleans flavors to new American dishes.” – Rothschild’s press release.

On July 21st, Rothschild’s celebrated its official opening. Mutineer Magazine sent out one of our favorite beer bloggers and underground correspondent, Genevieve Shuler (aka “The Hops Honey”), to partake in the opening festivities and scope out the scene. Here is her report: Continue Reading »

Tales of the Cocktail

Starting last Tuesday and ending this past Sunday, the 8th year of the largest and most epic spirits and mixology event in the U.S. took place in New Orleans, LA. It has taken just as long for most of the industry professionals to recover and report on their experiences. We searched all over the blogosphere for recaps of the 2010 Tales of the Cocktail, and here is a list of some of our favorites:

Drinking Lessons From Tales of the Cocktail (NewOrleans.com)
“Tales of the Cocktail is summer camp for high-end bar flies. Instead of arts and crafts and archery, you get drink-y lectures covering the history of Prohibition and gin or the science of stirring. You also make new friends, get very little sleep and, instead of poison ivy and sunburns, you catch a few blinding hangovers.”

Philly Beer Week 2011 After an extremely successful third year that included over 1,000 events and 195 participants, Philly Beer Week is already getting ready for a fourth go-around. This past week the powers that be behind Philly Beer Week announced the dates for 2011, and it looks like Beer Week is going to stay in the summer rather than move back to its old home in March. Next year’s dates are going to be June 3rd through June 12th.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with Philly Beer Week, PBW was the initial 10 day long festival celebrating beer heritage in its city that has thus sprung life into around 25 other cities throughout the country. During these 10 days, bars, breweries, restaurants, and other beer related industries team up to bring you some of the craziest, most impressive beer events they can think of. Continue Reading »

Brewpub4u

I went to my friends’ wedding a few short weeks ago. Something that I have always loved about weddings, picnics, business retreats, and other like events isn’t just the community, but the community filled with far more alcohol than we could shake a stick at.

In the course of time we have all had means and methods for transporting our various beverages to the site of choice. Flasks, jockey boxes, wine gourds, coolers being amongst some of my favorites. Duane Woytonik of Brewpub4u seems to have delivered to us the mastery beer transport machine. Continue Reading »

Phillips Distilling UV Sweet Green Tea Vodka Close-up In college, I had a friend that mixed a “diet cocktail” of vodka and fresh brewed green tea (sugarless tea, mind you). Needless to say, I found the combination to be rather unpalatable (okay, it was absolutely terrible). Don’t get me wrong, though. I love green tea. I like vodka. And I have been known to balance my boozing regimen with a regular detoxifying tea routine. But as a cocktail? Eh…

Thanks to Phillips Distilling Company, I can now get intoxicated and detoxify at the same time! Okay, technically that is not a legitimate statement. However, the new UV Sweet Green Tea Vodka is infused with real green tea leaves — which means it has to have some sort of antioxidant property. Right? Please don’t burst my bubble… Continue Reading »
