True story: when one puts Mentos candies in Diet Coke, an eruption occurs.
In 2006, this modern day marvel (and awesome party trick) reached the level of Internet stardom when Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz posted the “Extreme Diet Coke & Mentos Experiments” video on EepyBird.com. The original video, in what became a series, re-created the famous fountain display outside the Bellagio Hotel in Vegas, using a timed series of eruptions.
The duo’s second viral video entitled “The Extreme Diet Coke and Mentos Experiments II: The Domino Effect” consisted of a chain reaction of over 250 Coke & Mentos geysers.
Since the release of those videos, many popular TV shows have jumped on the Coke Gyser bandwagon – inviting Fritz and Stephen to perform their crowd-awing explosive stunts before live studio audiences. Even Mythbusters could not resist featuring their show on the subject.
And now, after years of secretly working behind closed curtains, Fritz and Stephen are back in action and have unveiled their latest feat in the world of candy and soda: “The Coke Zero & Mentos Rocket Car.”
The Stats: 108 2 Liter bottles Coke Zero + 648 Mentos = 221 Feet
Oh, and as if that wasn’t badass enough, you can also watch the video in 3-D…FOR THE WIN.
