Odell Brewing is back at it again, this time with their 2008 World Beer Cup silver medal winning Double Pilsner in hand. “Double Pilsner is a tribute to the classic Bohemian Pilsner, and boasts a strong German pilsner malt profile. Munich malts and Caramalt are balanced by Saaz and whole flower Tettnanger hops,” according to Amanda Johnson of Odell.
Limited to 100 barrels, Double Pilsner will be available in a limited area of distribution and will be found in six packs with a suggested retail price of $10.99-11.99. And as with all limited release beers, once this beer is gone — it is gone for good.
Interested in attending the release? The brewery will celebrate the release on June 19 in the brewery’s Tap Room with festivities beginning at 4:00PM.

Sometimes, the health benefits from the ingredients of certain fine beverages extends far beyond its mere internal consumption. Some fine beverages can also provide external benefits. I have been known to wash my hair with beer after prolonged exposure to chlorine. There are even spas in the Czech Republic dedicated to beer treatments — beer baths, beer wraps, beer facials etc… Continue Reading »

This video is pretty awesome. Taking a trip through Japan’s rich cultural heritage, this video gives you a glimpse of the brewing process behind Sapporo. It may not be how it’s actually brewed, but if the creators of Avatar met with the creators of Kung Fu Panda and Fern Gully, and then they went to the Wonka Factory to see how the Oompa Loompas took an ordinary task and made it absolutely fascinating to watch, this is what they would envision. Political affairs never cease to amaze me. Especially, when fine beverages are involved.
Venezuela’s extreme leftist leader, President Hugo Chavez, is hell bent on a mission to completely nationalize the country’s economy. In his economic war on Venezuela’s “stateless bourgeoisie”, Chavez has already nationalized dozens of companies, including multi-billion dollar oil projects.
At the moment, Chavez’s main target is Venezuela’s largest privately owned company and biggest beer producer, Empresas Polar. From seizing warehouses and products to threatening to raise taxes on beer, Chavez seems to be doing everything in his power to force Mendoza into the de-privatization of Empresas Polar. Last week, Chavez ordered the military to crack down on businesses selling beer — especially unlicensed retailers and people selling beer out of trucks. Continue Reading »

Let’s be honest with each other. There are just some days where no matter how hard you try to find motivation, it can be very hard to focus on work. And we can all agree that there is no greater tool than the Internet for faking productivity and procrastinating the tasks at hand. Viral videos are most definitely a weakness of mine and, lucky for me, I can write-off watching fine beverage videos as “research and development” for the blog. (Or at least that is what I keep telling myself).
My newest online video addiction is Combier USA’s collection of ”Shaker Faces” – a series of videos capturing the cocktail shaking techniques of some of the country’s most well-known mixologists. Continue Reading »

True story: when one puts Mentos candies in Diet Coke, an eruption occurs.
In 2006, this modern day marvel (and awesome party trick) reached the level of Internet stardom when Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz posted the “Extreme Diet Coke & Mentos Experiments” video on EepyBird.com. The original video, in what became a series, re-created the famous fountain display outside the Bellagio Hotel in Vegas, using a timed series of eruptions. Continue Reading »

A Belgian and a Scotsman walk into a bar… ahhh the beginning to a very lame joke. But still, Belgian and Scotch – these are two words you rarely find in the same sentence, let alone the style description of a beer. It would be like labeling a wine as a “Bordeaux-style Tuscan.” Just seems weird.
All joking aside, Belgian-Style Scotch Ale, the fourth installment in the REUNION Beer series, is set to release later this month. For those of you who cannot wrap your heads around such a concept, let me break it down. Essentially, the beer is brewed using a Scotch Ale recipe, with 5 different malts, hopped with Kent Goldings, and then fermented at a high gravity using Trappist yeast (aka Belgian yeast). Scotch Ale, Belgian yeast. Got it? Continue Reading »
