As part of a broader commitment to encourage responsible drinking and discourage excessive or irresponsible drinking, several of the biggest corporations in the alcohol beverage industry have joined forces with The International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP) to develop a website dedicated to helping reduce the harmful use of alcohol.
Global Action On Harmful Drinking has launched three main initiatives to address alcohol abuse, with an emphasis on low- and middle-income countries. These three initiatives are:
- Drink Driving
- Noncommercial Alcohol
“These topics are among the key areas for action recommended in the ‘Global Strategy to Reduce Harmful Use of Alcohol’ that has just been adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO).” – Marcus Grant, ICAP president
The goal of the consortium is to make a significant effort in the next three years to address harmful drinking through a combination of global and local actions. The website also features a section for registered users to share and discuss the initiatives.
