Crystal Head and Gatorade

Wow…is it Tuesday already? We didn’t post a blog yesterday in observance of Columbus Day and the Canadian Thanksgiving (out of respect to our fine Canadian readers). Deadline has reared its ugly head once again in the world of the Mutineer, and the sleep deprivation has filled us with madness that lured us into an early morning drinking session today that featured Crystal Head Vodka and Gatorade (fruit punch), which led to some unanticipated yet completely predictable madness of its own, and eventually to “How many shots in a 750 ml liquor bottle” in Yahoo! Answers. Yes…deadline turns us into beasts. (The issue is at the printer and it is KILLER.)

So how many shots are in a 750 ml liquor bottle?

Depends on how big your shots are. 1 oz. – 2 oz. is common.

According to Yahoo! Answers:

To figure how many shots are in a bottle, just divide the total volume of the bottle by the size jigger you use to pour.

25.35 ounces, divided by a 1.5 oz pour = 16.9 pours

Domo Slurpee Cups

I have no idea WTF a Domo is, but it is apparently taking over 7-Eleven. This has Mutineer Director of Operations Jeff Dorenbush all worked up, so further investigation has been merited.

According to Creative Online, Domo takes over 7-Eleven:
This Fall, 7-Eleven will undergo another Simpsons-like takeover—this time, however, by the Japanese character Domo, the brown blockhead with feet created by Japanese illustrator and director Tsuneo Goda, and who also serves as the mascot for Japanese TV station NHK. Continue Reading »

Coca-Cola Gold Peak Flex Fresh Tea Brewing Machine

Iced tea is huge here in the South. It’s everywhere, but you are rather limited in your tea options. Most places offer sweet tea, and maybe unsweetened tea if it’s a fancy joint. I’ve even found sweet tea served out of a 55 gallon trash can. Gary Valentine (the guy who looks like Kevin James but isn’t) does a hilarious bit (1:33 in) about it. Sweet tea is definitely king, but Coke wants to replace the monarch with democracy.

Bloomberg News says in a press release that Coca Cola is field testing a machine, Flex Fresh, that makes iced tea on demand. It can make more than several different combinations of iced tea with the press of a few buttons. You can choose green or black tea, sweetened or unsweetened, and peach, raspberry, or lemon flavor. Ford Racecar

It’s official. Australians know how to party. American spectators have been known to rush the field nude like maniacs after 3 or 4 beers, and the Australians are pounding “slabs” of beer?

According to Reuters, Racing fans ‘limited’ to 24 beers a day:

Adult fans at one of Australia’s most popular sports races, the Bathurst 1000, will be limited to one ‘slab’ of beer a day – or 24 275 ml cans – as police focus on reducing alcohol-related crime…Wine lovers must make do with no more that four liters of cask wine per day and combinations of the options would not be allowed, the police statement said.

Being that absinthe isn’t mentioned, I’m assuming there is no limit. Par-ty. I’m talking Powderfinger, Kangaroos, and bacon-wrapped Vegi-mite! HEYO

Sea World

The Associated Press is reporting that AB-Inbev has sold five theme parks to the Blackstone Group for $2.7 billion. That is a lot of money…enough to buy you approximately 5.4 billion cans of Bud Light at the right bar at the right time in Las Vegas. I’m cool with this, as long as I can still access a bounty of Bud Light in plastic cups near the Stingray Lagoon and then go take a nap in the Penguin Encounter.

World Beer Festival

The people at All About Beer Magazine know how to throw a party, a reputation well defended this last Saturday in Durham, NC at the World Beer Festival. Pints were pounded and worlds were rocked at this epic beer tasting.

According to co-owner and publisher Daniel Bradford, “As the leading beer magazine in America, we have invested three decades into building local beer communities and educating the public in beer quality and appreciation. The World Beer Festival has been an important part of our mission. Since our first Durham festival in 1996, we have seen the beer community grow in strength, diversity and passion.

The World Beer Festival will also host events next year in Columbia, SC (January 16); Raleigh, NC (April 24); and Richmond, VA (June 12) before returning for the fifteenth Durham fest (October 2).

Olde English 800

Two dark horse candidates medaled at this year’s Great American Beer Festival. Milwaukee’s Best (some know it as The Beast) took gold in the American Style Cream Ale or Lager category. It beat out 23 other entries (mostly from craft breweries) on its way to the podium. Olde English 800 took silver in the International Style Pilsener category. It bested 11 other entrants.

Of course, the Big Three (Miller, Bud, Coors) took most of the American Style medals, but the moral of the story is that fine beverage can be found in surprising packages. So go ahead folks, drop two bones on a quart of one of these tasties and toast their victory!

Milk Protest in Brussels

This was like “Watchmen” meets “V for Vendetta”. While stray cats rejoiced, riot police were no match for the onslaught of fresh milk which local farmers have apparently weaponized to fulfill their political agenda.

According to the New York Times, European Farmers Protest Fall in Milk Prices:

After months of complaints by European dairy farmers angry over low prices, protesters in Brussels on Monday poured milk onto the streets, hurled eggs and other missiles, and started fires that filled the air with black smoke. Continue Reading »
