Muslim Model Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno Drinks Beer In Malaysia and Get Flogged

Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno

In a raid last year at a Malaysian nightclub, part-time Muslim model Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno was caught drinking a beer. The consumption of alcohol is a punishable offense in Malaysia for Muslims, though usually the punishment is a fine. After pleading guilty, Shukarno was sentenced to six lashes from a Malaysian court. The lashings are carried out by whipping the exposed seat of the offender with a four foot rattan stick that has been soaked in water.

Does this seem like a reasonable punishment for such an offense?

What hypocrites !!! Its ok to serve alcohol to non-muslims. If your religion is so against alcohol why not ban it altogether.

The sin is between she and Her God, and God is so kind and I am sure there is always an option of being repentant. It’s is up to her God to decide on her faith and not the people. Do you mean by caning her and her sin will be taken of.

God will do the judgement and not people and I feel that drink alcohol is not a criminal offence. Unless you drink alcohol and driving which can cause hurt to others.

I’m wondering why I see so many Malay men openly drinking liquor when I visit Malaysia. I always knew that it was against the law, but considering how routine it is to see a man who is clearly Malay, and Muslim, sitting at a club and enjoying a drink, I always assumed it was tolerated.

Clearly, it’s only tolerated when it’s a MAN doing the drinking. Hypocrites. Sexist pigs.

i do appreciate ur all comments regarding this case, but, i know a little bit bout the islamic law,and again A LITTLE BIT ONLY,k. it is a divine revelation,a divine rule, HUDUD rule, where the punishment for drinking alcohol is caning(to educate ‘law breakers’ and community themselves). she herself should know it, as a Muslim. to ban it altogether, other problems arise,so, malaysia(multi racial country) cant ban it(yet maybe).n yes, GOD is very kind.thats y, drinking alcohol is prohibited, so that, driving can be safer(1 less problem in road accidents caused by alcohol). n yes, people now tend to ‘ignore’ or ‘tolerate’ with alcohols or liquor. but the fact that drinking alcohol is prohibited in Islam,it is firm,n cant be tolerated..hope u guys can get a slightly better picture of it.
