Beer: Fire Rock Pale Ale
Brewery: Kona Brewing Company
Style: Pale Ale
Suggested Glassware: Pint glass
Great labeling caught my eye first, then great taste kept me wanting more. Fire Rock Pale ale from Hawaii offers plenty of flavor its mainland cousins have.
In 1995 Kona Brewing Company was founded on Hawaii’s Big Island of Kailua Kona by father and son team Cameron Healy and Spoon Khalsa. Offering an array of styles from their original Big Wave Golden Ale to the Pipeline Porter that is made with 100% Hawaiian Kona coffee.
Kona Brewing Company has two brewpubs, one in Honolulu and the other on Kailua Kona both offering bottle and draft beer as well as an extensive menu. Gourmet pizza, sandwiches and salads are all made with fresh local ingredients.
Kona is available on the mainland through a partnership with Craft Brewers Alliance Inc. in which Kona Brewing Company’s beers are brewed at locations in Portland, OR and Portsmouth, NH. The beer brewed at theses facilities is closely monitored and uses the same ingredients as that brewed on the island, going so far as to adjust the water to mimic that in Hawaii.

First off I love the photo. Second I haven’t been to Hawaii yet and this may be the closest I can come for a while so I’m out to the store to get a taste of the Big Island.

I haven’t tried their Fire Rock, but they’ve made it out here to NC and I’ve had a chance to try some of their brews including the Longboard Lager and Wailua Wheat … not too bad!

The Longboard Lager is AWESOME. I haven’t tried the Fire Rock either, but look forward to doing so sooner than later.

Longboard and Fire Rock are great beers! I’ve been to Hawaii 2 times and this beer reminds me of those times. Enjoy!
