Things are getting awesome. Mutineer Magazine will soon be carried internationally in Safeway stores. This is HUGE as it is Mutineer Magazine’s first foray into grocery stores, and Safeway is big time distribution that builds on our bookstore and newsstand distribution.
I’ve decided that from now on I’m only shopping at Safeway, or at least until another grocery store starts carrying Mutineer. A grocery cart with a copy of Mutineer Magazine in it is a happy grocery cart. Continue Reading »

Absinthe: Pere Francois
Distillery: Francois Bezencon
Mutineer Magazine is all about absinthe right now, with the cover of the June/July issue being an absinthe extravaganza. We received this absinthe to try and the staff loved it, so a product spotlight it shall receive. This absinthe comes from Fleurier, Switzerland, home of the green fairy, and is produced in a family owned distillery that has been in operation for over 40 years. Since the ban on absinthe was lifted, the family has started producing individually numbered bottles using all the original ingredients including grand wormwood (artemisia absinthium) and European herbs. Pere Francois Absinthe garnered a gold medal at the National Competition of Waters-of-Swiss Noble Event in 2005/2006.
Our Energyologist Jeff is very into the 14 different flavors of Three Olives Vodka, and has been after me to blog about them for some time. Three Olives got started in 1998 and now offer drinkers a wide array of flavors using their English distilled vodka. Here is a run down of the flavors currently available as well as some official Three Olives recipes to go with them.
These recipes are all pretty simple, and Jeff suggests you get creative in how you mix the flavored vodka into cocktails. We’ll start things off with his signature cocktail:
Energyologist Jeff’s “Door and Bush” Cocktail
1 1/2 oz. Three-O Triple Shot Espresso Vodka
1/2 oz. Three-O Vanilla Vodka
4 oz. Java Monster Mean Bean Energy Drink
No Garnish.
And for the 14 Cocktails Using 14 Flavors: Continue Reading »

An impressive display of brew from the San Diego Brewers Guild.
The beer scene was well represented at the Mutineer Magazine National Launch Party presented by Paso Creek on May 18 at Falcon Hollywood.
The San Diego Brewers Guild brought twenty-eight different brews including AleSmith, Alpine Beer Co., Ballast Point, and Green Flash just to name a few. The San Diego Brewer’s Guild is on a mission to share the fine beers of San Diego with the world, a mission that duly carried at the Launch Party. Continue Reading »

In the second of my non-alcoholic blog trifecta (cocaine isn’t alcohol people!), Pepsi is still trying to shoot down rumors that Pepsi released patriotic themed cans of cola after September 11. Ironically enough, I heard about this on Pepsi’s website, under the “false rumor alert” tab in the company section of the website. Does Pepsi have to refute so many rumors that is has a dedicated section of the website for it? Can I sign up for Pepsi “false rumor alert” RSS feed and get up to the minute false rumors delivered to my iPhone? Weirder yet, the rumors stem from as far back as 2001, yet for some reason are still being publicized on Pepsi’s site. Continue Reading »
