Spirits Spotlight: New Amsterdam Gin

Fri, Apr 10 |

Spirit: Gin
Distillery: New Amsterdam Spirits Company

Originally New York City was called New Amsterdam when the Dutch settled on these shores in 1624. Bringing with them the recipe for what was then dubbed genever after the French word genievre meaning juniper. This tonic was originally used as a cure for stomach ailments, but soon found its way into the mainstream drinking culture.

New Amsterdam Gin revives this classic spirit and adds touches of citrus to create a smooth spirit that has won the Gold Medal from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition two years running. New Amsterdam’s makers have styled the bottle so that it, “echoes the gleaming skyscrapers of Manhattan. Steel and glass. Smooth angles. Modern design.” For more information about New Amsterdam Gin visit their website.
