I've actually got a version of "One Toke Over the Line" that starts out with that soliloquy, but in the book, he follows it by saying: But the only thing that worried me was the ether. There is nothing more irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we would be getting into that rotten stuff sooner or later.

Long Live GONZO!!!

I was Raoul Duke for Halloween in '06, and I memorized the whole soliloquy. Lets see if I can remember it. (The quantities might be off.)

We had two bags of grass, 75 pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt-shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, screamers, downers, laughers... also a case of beer, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a pint of raw ether, and five dozen amyls. Not that we'd need all that for the trip, but [something about getting into] a serious drug collection, the tendency is to [push/take?] it as far as you can.

Any upcoming articles in MM about "raw ether?"
