We picked up some dried dates at the Hollywood Farmer’s Market today. To be honest, I don’t have a ton of experience with dates, so I did some research to brush up on my date knowledge.
Top 5 Reasons:
5. Dates can be made into alcoholic beverages such as date wine.
4. Fresh dates are an excellent source of vitamin C, though they lose this when dried.
3. A mature date palm can produce around 250 lbs. of fruit per harvest.
2. Like humans, the male date palms cannot bear fruit, and thus are only useful for pollination
1. Also like humans, one male date palm can pollenize up to 100 female date palms.
