Jack Daniels and The Rainbow Bar & Grill: A Perspective

The Rainbow Bar & Grill

The Rainbow Bar and Grill sits on the far west end of Hollywood’s legendary Sunset Strip where it has been home to classic rock stars in the 70’s, hair metal bands during the 80’s and everybody stuck on memory lane ever since the grungy 90’s. While the pub actually serves great food, it goes with saying that its reputation is rooted in mass-consumed cocktails and the foolish acts that follow.

It only makes perfect sense that the much-needed renovation the bar received on its ground floor indoor bar and outside patio bar, where sponsored by Jack Daniels. The drink has been a favorite of nearly every rock star to adorn the walls (think Slash) so why not do some cross marketing and turn The Rainbow into a huge Jack Daniels ad? Staff at “The ‘Bow” did not divulge specific costs, but informed me that Jack Daniels is giving back to long term vendors in the form of bar stools, posters and clocks. In the case of The Rainbow, the “financial aid” also came in the form of Jack Daniels cocktail tables.

Jack Daniels

Does it make me want to drink more Jack Daniels when I’m there? Maybe, maybe not. It doesn’t influence what kind of liquor I will order, but if/when I’m inclined to drink whiskey, yeah, I’ll probably fall victim to the brain washing and order Jack. But why the hell not? I’m in Hollywood. I’m at The Rainbow. I’m surrounded by the sexiest girls of past and present. A little Jack Daniels can help blur the generation gap.

Don’t forget Michael Anthony of Van Halen with his Jack Daniels bass! Been in the Rainbow once, say Robin Crosby of Ratt hobbling around with a broken foot/leg/whatever. Still have one of my drink cards somewhere. Drank more Jack than have the state of Tennessee myself, but that was a long time ago. Hope you knocked a few back. Cheers!

I’ve seen this icon of debauchery many times on my way down the strip and have been once and had a good time. The food has been mentioned to me more than once to be worth a visit so I must make it a point try some. As far as drinks, the well is never dry at The Rainbow Bar.

The Rainbow is definitely up there as a “must see” for any visitor to Hollywood. However, it being plastered with Jack Daniels (or any other liquor swag, for that matter) certainly wouldn’t influence me on what to drink. Besides, I am a Maker’s Mark guy. :)

I think I’ve fallen victim to marketing. Of course, JD is the rocker’s swill of choice when it comes to whiskey, so even if The Bow was kitted out in Wild Turkey swag, I’d still drink Jack. I mean hell, at the end of the bar most nights you have the walking advertisement for JD; Lemmy.

Have I not payed my respects to ‘the bow’ and our good friends (poor Jonny S) in the form of puke and continuous straight JD consumption moments following… even if it was ‘all over’ one of those snazzy new tables..?

    I say yes.

I steer clear of Jack. “But it’s not Jack, it’s Gentlemen Jack!!” .. Ya, it has the same finish as Jack does, and that’s what I hate about Jack..

I’m feeling sick all of the sudden ..

Love the Bow! When I want to get rowdy (or they are out of my beer), I always opt for Jack- nothing is more rock n roll AND its yummy…my parents brought me to the distillery in Lynchburg when I was 8 and it was love at first sniff.

I came here to help out capone aka phil c. and I ended up reading a really well-written article:) yeahhhhhh, I’d pretty much KILL to have been there in the heyday of the 80’s glam movement!! so I drink jack and coke on occasion when I’m there, look at the pics on the walls and drift off in my head imagining what it musta been like there back then…..!
