I was in New York a couple weeks back hanging out at an Irish pub, and I ordered an “Irish Car Bomb”.
Irish Car Bomb 101:
You fill a shot glass with half Bailey’s and half Irish Whiskey, and you drop the shot glass into a half pint of Guinness Beer. Immediately after dropping the shot glass you must chug or suffer the fate of a curdled drink.
This cocktail is surprisingly smooth and tasty, very chocolaty and approachable for people that don’t typically drink Guinness.

So back to the original question:
Is the Irish Car Bomb politically incorrect? Violence and car bombings were a very real threat in Ireland from the late 1960’s to the late 1990’s with religious and political conflicts raging, which is where the cocktail gets its name.
Would you be psyched to order a “9/11” made with a combination of Middle Eastern and American ingredients? I wouldn’t think so, so why so insensitive about Ireland’s troubles. I don’t have an answer to this question, and am interested in what you think…

I’m with you on that one. Suppose you lost a loved one in such a tragedy…it would suck to go into your favorite watering hole and hear someone ordering that…for (presumably) pleasure. I say re-name it: Call it an Irish Nipple, or Irish Pub Hound, or Irish Multi-Vitamin …ANYTHING, but Irish Car Bomb.

From the words of Futurama:
Fry: Don’t girl me with that girl stuff. Bender and me are guys. Guys don’t have feelings.
Leela: Bender’s not a guy, he’s a robot.
Fry: Same thing.
I think i’m going to have to create a “9/11″ shot/drink…
Middle Eastern Coffee
Layer on top some Jack Daniels
Light On Fire.
And BAM….. 9/11!

I think that it being compared to a proposed “9/11″ shot is slightly over kill. Theres the atomic bomb shot. Ive never seen a Japanese guy get offended by that. I mean we have the Jager Bomb because u drop the shot into the energy drink. Thats the same reason the Irish Car Bomb is a “Bomb” drink. So the bomb part of the whole thing is just how u serve it. And we have way more offensive drink names anyways.
Anyways simply put. Irish Car Bomb = Good.

People use humor to distance themselves from tragedies. But it is all in the timing. You wouldn’t walk up to Jesus Christ and offer him a drink called “The Hammer and Nails” on the day of his ressurection. But give it some time/distance from the event and things become “Jokeable”. I’m not saying that car bombings or 9/11 are jokeable events. I am only saying that humor is how people learn to deal with tragedy and humor is the way the misinformed or unenlightened will approach a taboo subject. I can remember when the Shuttle Blew up over Florida and the joke that came out three days later was “What does NASA stand for?” Answer ” Now Accepting Seven Applications.” Horrible? Yes, but it lends credibility to my point. Cheers!

[...] Is the “Irish Car Bomb” Politically Incorrect? [...]

It is extremely politically incorrect!! :O Statistically the troubles for us were far worse than even 9/11 for Americans!! In the 9/11 around 2,819 people died within a population of 307,006,550! For us 3,466 of us died in a population of less than 3,500,212!! It is insensitive and not funny…….
